Background and Objectives

As cancer rates rise globally, nutritional oncology becomes crucial for both prevention and care. This programme builds on foundational nutrition knowledge and focuses on the dietary aspects of cancer treatment and recovery. Specifically, the programme seeks to:

  • Deepen understanding of cancer biology and its interaction with nutrition.
  • Provide the tools to plan therapeutic diets for cancer patients across different stages.
  • Introduce research and innovations in oncology nutrition.

 

Programme Structure

The key modules that will be covered in the programme include Oncology and Human Biology, Nutrient Requirements in Cancer Care, Gene-Nutrition Interactions, Diet and Cancer Prevention, Chemotherapy & Radiation Nutrition Care, Nutrition Support Strategies (Enteral/Parenteral), Post-treatment Nutritional Rehabilitation and Practitioner Case Studies and Research Projects

 

Learning Outcomes

It is expected that by the end of the programme, learners will be able to:

  • Understand cancer metabolism and cachexia management.
  • Customize patient diets to reduce treatment side effects.
  • Support recovery with nutrition-focused care.
  • Interpret emerging research and apply to practice.

 

Eligibility

This programme is open to graduates with background in science, health sciences, food and nutrition, or related fields. Also, Afro-Brit Diploma holders in Nutritional Oncology or equivalent will be considered in the programme.

 

Duration and Cost

This programme is designed for nine (09) months and will cost 300,000FCFA. In addition, students will pay 20,000FCFA for registration.  

 

Career Prospects

Career options for those completing this programme include but not limited to Oncology Nutrition Specialists, Cancer Care Consultants, Hospital Dietitians (Oncology Department), Research Coordinators in Clinical Trials and Experts or specialists in Nutrition Oncology.
