Background and Objectives

This course addresses the critical role of nutrition in the prevention, management, and recovery process of cancer. As cancer patients often face malnutrition and treatment side effects, a specialized approach is essential. Proper dieting and adequate nutritional care and support can be the game changer in the life of patients. This is the reason Afro-Brit designed the Diploma course on Nutritional Oncology, to enable the:

  • Understanding cancer pathophysiology and treatment interactions with nutrition.
  • Managing nutritional complications associated with chemotherapy and radiation.
  • Promoting nutritional strategies that support patient care and recovery.

 

Programme Structure

The Diploma programme will include modules on Human Biology & Body Functions, Introduction to Oncology, Cancer-Nutrition Relationship, Dietary Interventions for Different Cancer Stages, Macro and Micronutrient Requirements in Oncology, Nutrition and Lifestyle for Prevention, Feeding Approaches in Cancer, Pharmacological and Dietary Interventions, Post-Treatment Nutrition Care and Case Study and Research Review

 

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the programme, we expect learners to be able to:

  • Analyze nutritional needs across cancer stages.
  • Understand metabolic changes in oncology patients.
  • Customize dietary plans for different treatment phases.
  • Use diet as part of holistic cancer care.

 

Eligibility

Ideally, successful applicants into this Diploma programme will be holders of CGCE Advanced Level in the sciences or graduates in Life Sciences, Nutrition, Public Health, or related fields.

 

Duration and Cost

This Diploma programme in Nutritional Oncology is designed for six (06) months and will cost 250,000FCFA. In addition, students will pay 15,000FCFA for registration. 

 

Career Prospects

Typically, this programme will equip individuals to become Oncology Dietitians, Clinical Research Assistant, Cancer Care Educators, Nutrition Support Program Coordinators in NGOs and Consultants in Hospitals and Cancer Rehabilitation Centres.
