Background and Objectives

The increasing burden of diabetes globally, including in Cameroon, necessitates trained professionals who can guide patients through nutritional and lifestyle interventions. This is the mission behind the Afro-Brit Certificate programme in Clinical Diabetology. This course enables learners to:

  • Understand the pathophysiology and classification of diabetes.
  • Design dietary interventions that support blood sugar management.
  • Counsel patients on insulin, oral medications, and dietary restrictions.
  • Apply a scientific approach to chronic disease nutrition care.

 

Programme Structure

The certificate course is comprised of ten (10) core modules including Human Biology and Physiology, Macronutrients and Micronutrients, Overview of Diabetes and Global Epidemiology, Clinical Nutrition Basics, Oral Hypoglycaemic Agents and Insulin, Dietary Management of Diabetes, Diabetes and Organ Complications, Diabetes in Special Situations (Fasting, Travel), Reversal Approaches & Counselling Strategies and Technology in Diabetes Monitoring

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the Afro-Brit Certificate programme in Clinical Diabetology, learners will be able to:

  • Explain diabetes mechanisms and treatment plans.
  • Plan meals for different types of diabetes patients.
  • Understand hypoglycaemic agents and insulin’s dietary integration.
  • Counsel patients using evidence-based nutrition interventions.
  • Recognize complications and tailor preventive strategies.

 

Eligibility

This certificate programme is open to graduates in Clinical/Public Health Nutrition, Food Science/Technology, Life Sciences, Medical, or Allied Health Sciences and other Diploma holders in nutrition-related disciplines.

 

Duration and Cost

This Certificate programme in Clinical Diabetology is designed for three (03) months and will cost 150,000FCFA. In addition, students will pay 10,000FCFA for registration.

This is a very important course given the increasing number of patients in our society. thus, graduates from this certificate programme can work as Clinical diabetologists, Diet consultants, Diabetes educators in hospitals and NGOs, Nutrition officers in government-run NCD programs and Freelance diabetes counsellors or lifestyle coaches
