Afro-Brit Centre for International Development has been established to champion development thinking through a multidisciplinary frame. One of such frames is the economic dimension of development. In this programme, Afro-Brit Centre for International Development brings students to the lane of specialising in the economics of growth and development as well as in political economy and heterodox approaches to Economics. Research and teaching are pursued on a variety of topics and are unique in their depth and range of regional and specialising coverage, including topics from contemporary banking and finance, the economics of the environment, gender economics, global economic policy, as well as the economic development of a variety of regions across the world.

The BSc in Development Economics at Afro-Brit Centre for International Development will run for 3years for full time and 4years for part time students.
Students will undertake core, compulsory and optional modules. The core modules are mandatory and must be passed in the year they are taken before the student can progress to the next year. The compulsory modules are mandatory but in the case of a failure, students may carry this into their next year provided that they retake and pass the failed element or exam. Optional modules are designed to help students design their own intellectual journey while maintaining a strong grasp of the fundamental aspect of the programme.
After the introductory modules in Year 1, students will then advance into more specialised modules in Years 2 and 3 that dive deeper into economic theory, specific regions in Asia, Africa and Latin America, and specialised fields. In their final year, students will take at least 30 credits from the BSc in International and Rural Development Modules either on Poverty, Social Justice and Inequality, Gender, Climate Financing etc.
Development Economics is a finely blended programme at Afro-Brit and upon graduation, the Development Economics graduates will be grounded in statistical skills and an ability to think laterally, take a global perspective, and employ critical reasoning on issues around economic development planning and policy. Graduates will be best suited to work with development banks, Government Departments charged with development projects and programmes, UN agencies, local, national and international NGOs, Local and Regional Councils as well as private firms and consultancies.
