Background and Objectives
Nutrition extension professionals play a vital role in bringing knowledge to rural and underserved communities. This programme prepares leaders to take nutrition science from classrooms to the grassroots level. This programme will specifically aim to:
- Develop practical skills in community engagement and education.
- Equip participants with tools to promote nutrition-sensitive agriculture.
- Enable advocacy for better food systems and community empowerment.
Programme Structure
Core modules for this programme will include Nutrition Extension Models, Community Nutrition and Behavioural Change, Sustainable Food Practices, Communication and Teaching Skills, Extension Programme Design and Evaluation, Stakeholder Mobilization and Advocacy, Nutrition Policy at the Community Level and Fieldwork Projects and Documentation.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the programme, learners will be able to:
- Mobilize communities around nutrition issues.
- Design impactful nutrition outreach strategies.
- Engage policymakers and stakeholders.
- Promote food security through community initiatives.
Eligibility
This programme is open to graduates with background in science, health sciences, food and nutrition, or related fields. Applicants will social science backgrounds with extended work experience can also postulate for this programme. Also, Afro-Brit Diploma holders in in nutrition related areas will be considered in the programme.
Duration and Cost
This programme is designed for nine (09) months and will cost 300,000FCFA. In addition, students will pay 20,000FCFA for registration.
Career Prospects
This programme opens up a great deal of career opportunities and graduates will move on to becoming Nutrition Extension Officers, NGO Programme coordinators/managers, Community Nutrition Mobilizers, Nutrition Educators and Consultants for Nutrition Outreach Programs.
